Hardware Overview
NXT
The NXThardware platform provides unmatched system flexibility, ease of use, and cost
effectiveness. Using true peer-to-peer TCP/IP (Ethernet) communications for networking
between controllers and software, the system eliminates the single point of failure pre-
valent in many other access control systems. The NXT is the first of a new generation of
equipment to use encrypted data from Cards to Readers as well as reader supervision.
Intelligent controllers operate virtually autonomously minimizing network traffic and elim-
inating bandwidth concerns.
NXT Controllers
l 2 or 4 door versions
l TCP/IP on-board based for peer-to-peer communication and to host
l Multiple 485 networks for communication to expansion boards and readers
l Embedded MAC address for easy discovery and true one button auto configuration
l Flash firmware updates
4x4 I/O Expansion Board
l 4 supervised inputs / 4 outputs
l Flash firmware updates
l Networked via RS-485 to Controller
l Connected to Controller via RS-485 with a “heartbeat” so the expansion board is
supervised
Greater I/O Expansion Board
l Configurable for up to 64 supervised inputs or 64 outputs
l Input and Output plug-on modules each in increments of 8
l Flash updating
l Networked to the NXT or NXT Mercury Powered controllers via RS-485
l RS-485 connection to the controller has a "heartbeat" making the expansion board
supervised
NXT Readers
l Connected to Controller via RS-485 with a “heartbeat” so readers are supervised
l Encrypted data from Cards to Readers to Controllers
l 128 bit encrypted format
l 1,000’ (300 meters) cable distance to controllers
NXT Exit Readers
l Allows two NXT readers to be wired into the same bus for entrance and exit
through that door
l Available on the NXT Mercury Powered 2-door and 4-door controller types
